Roy Austin, Jr., 74, of Gloversville, passed away peacefully Saturday, February 27, 2010 with his family at his side. He was born on August 25, 1935 in Gloversville, the son of the late Roy and Daisy (Kimball) Austin.
Roy served his country proudly in the United States Army from 1957 to 1959.
He worked as a clerk for the City of Gloversville Water Board.
Roy was an extremely positive person and always put everybody else's needs and well being ahead of his own. He loved sitting on his front porch and waving to passers-by. He also enjoyed casinos. Most of all, Roy loved to spend time with his nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews. He will be very sadly missed.
Survivors include two sisters: Gail Austin of Gloversville and Rita Patterson of Coppers Cove, TX; several nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews and a cousin, Dorothy Reckner of Saratoga. In addition to his parents, Roy was predeceased by a sister, Geraldine Gallup.
Family and friends are invited to a graveside service Friday, March 5 at 1 p.m. at Prospect Hill Cemetery (east side of Kingsboro Ave.) with Reverend Cynthia Van Allen presiding. Military honors will be conducted. In keeping with his wishes, Mr. Austin was cremated at Park View Crematorium in Schenectady.Arrangements have been entrusted to Kobuskie-Konik Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street, Gloversville, NY 12078. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Roy's name to the Alzheimer's Association of NY, Pine West Plaza, Bldg. 4, Suite 405 Albany, NY 12205 or to Mountain Valley Hospice, 108 Steele Ave. Gloversville, NY 12078.
