Mr. John J. Knapik, 90, of the Town of Glen, passed away June 29, 2011 at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam. He was born January 23, 1921 in Amsterdam, NY, the son of the late Jan and Antonia Cionek Knapik.
John was a life time resident of the area and attended local schools. He was a Dairy Farmer and worked his whole life on the family farm. He loved his animals and playing pitch. He enjoyed Polka music and was always a NY Yankees fan. He is of the Roman Catholic faith and a former member of St. Stanislaus Church. He married the late Alice Chorzelewski Knapik on April 20, 1947, they shared a union of fifty six years. She passed away on August 1, 2003. John loved spending time with his family, especially his grand children and great grand children, he also had his loving companions, dogs Tinker and Teddy and cat Midnight.
His loving family includes his daughter Naomi Kruger of Amsterdam, sons Joseph (Sandy) Knapik of Amsterdam and John A.(Michele) Knapik of Austell, GA; grandchildren Ronald Kruger and Michael Knapik, step grandchildren Jd Downing, Ian McDuffie and Michael McDuffie. Beloved great grandchildren Morgan and Jacob Knapik and step great grandchildren, Hailie and Derick Downing. Nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
In addition to his wife Alice Knapik, John is predeceased by his brothers Edward Knapik, Alexander Knapik, and William Knapik and sisters Josephine Olbrycht and Adella VanSchaick.
Funeral services for John will be on Tuesday, July 5, 2011 at 11AM at the Betz Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue in Amsterdam NY 12010. Relatives and friends are invited to visit one hour prior to the funeral service beginning at 10 AM. Fr. O. Robert DeMartinis will officiate. Burial will take place in St. Stanislaus Cemetery following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the Glen Vol. Fire Dept. or to the Ayers Memorial Animal Shelter in care of the funeral home office.
